I’ve been to a lot of parades in my life, but seriously, why would I ever go to another after spending an afternoon at Brooklyn’s infamous West Indian Day Parade. I’ve never seen so much booty in my life … it was … everywhere. Big butts, little butts, skinny butts, meaty butts, cottage cheese butts, perfectly toned butts … booty, booty, booty, booty rocking everywhere.
To be fair, once you get over the visual festivities, there was a lot to be excited about at the parade if you’re interested in other cultures as much as I am. There’s the pulsating music being blasted out by vibrating speakers strapped onto passing floats; musicians keepings the energy at full throttle by going to town on percussions; and elaborate costumes and dances native to the Jamaicans, Haitians, Dominicans, Trinidadians and other West Indian groups showing off their country’s heritage.
And of course, there’s the food. From jerk chicken, rice and peas and plantains, to curried goat and vegetable roti, if you want to a taste of the Caribbean without hopping on a plane, you’re not going to find a more diverse selection in a couple block stretch than the West Indian Day Parade.
Back to the booty … I took a fair share of photographs below that I’m sure many of you will enjoy.
