Travel Tip #10: The Journey Begins At The .99 Cent Store

2 Minutes Read Comments are off

You know who shops at the .99 Cent Store? Fucking geniuses, that’s who. Geniuses and seasoned travelers. Back when I was a neophyte explorer, I found myself in Target dropping $30 on mini deodorant, a foldup toothbrush, pocket Listerine and a pack of Tylenol. There’s perhaps a bit of hyperbole going on with that total, but only slightly. I was definitely spending way more than I needed to.

Now before going on a trip, I stock-up on travel supplies at the .99 Cent Store. It’s there that I’m able to find the toiletries needed for the journey ahead while being “economical”. And it’s not only toiletries being tossed into my shopping cart, it’s snacks. Having a carry-on full of munchies comes in handy on long flights whether you’re a pothead or not. And what you don’t eat on that 12-hour flight to Taipei makes for reserve fuel during those hikes or long walks you’ll take once you land.

Here’s a breakdown of items purchased before my recent 10 day trip to Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.

Speed Stick Deodorant (Power Of Nature Lightening)
Colgate Toothbrush
Crest Baking Soda & Peroxide Toothpaste
Ibuprofen
Individual Wet Wipes
Lubriderm Lotion
Pocket Kleenex
Planters Honey Roasted Peanuts
Planters Chili Lime Peanuts
Natural Joy California Pistachios
Eclipse Spearmint 2 Pack
Coconut Beach Coconut Chips
Teddy Grahams Honey

Needless to say, at approximately $14, this was quite the bargain. The first three alone items would have set me back $14 at Target. So before you plan your next expedition, pop by your local .99 Cent store and take advantage of capitalism’s greatest gift to us all.
